Simple Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are the easiest and (most delicious) side dish. The key is to use this masher. Mine are a bit grainy but you can run them through the same masher again for a smoother consistency. You can always add more butter too, but it’s January and we’re dealing with the consequences of December.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 250 ml 1 cup full fat milk
  • 50 g butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Freshly grated nutmeg

Instructions

  • Boil and peel the potatoes. While still hot, mash with a fork or a potato masher. Then add the milk, butter, salt and nutmeg.
  • Mix on top of the stove with a gentle flame until they are silky and all the butter has melted. You can add black or white pepper but my kids prefer it this way.
