Mushroom Steaks

Ingredients

  • 4 steaks, preferably filets, resting out of the fridge for 30 minutes, patted dry, and sprinkled with some salt and pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, mashed
  • 1 box mushrooms (250 g), preferably brown button, sliced
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 500 ml stock or broth, I used 1 cube veggie stock @kallo
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, black pepper, thyme, rosemary to taste

Instructions

  • Cook the onion in the olive oil until tender. Add the garlic and continue cooking. Add the mushrooms and sprinkle with a bit of salt. Cook on medium high heat.2- When the juices are somewhat reduced add the butter. When it melts, sprinkle the flour and mix.
  • On the side, begin cooking your steaks. Make sure they are dry and sprinkled with salt and pepper on both sides. Don’t turn them constantly, a couple minutes on each side should do.
  • Back to the mushrooms, add the broth, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, and herbs. Easy on the salt, I didn’t need to add more as the broth is already seasoned. Cook until thick and fragrant.
  • Add the steaks to the sauce and simmer for a minute. We had this with a fresh salad and some mashed potatoes. Enjoy xx
